Proof Of Concept
The Boulder Field Masters Series launched with 3 Events in 2019. Each event introduced a new finals format that aimed to challenge competitors in new ways and create a more interesting spectating experience.
The Greatest Flasher - Focused heavily on the most demanding and stress inducing moment in climbing, your first attempt. You only get one, better make it count. Open competitors were only given 1 try on each Qualifier and Final boulder problem and the one with the most flashes wins. This format raised the stakes on competition performance and captured more intense “try hard” moments in one event than we’ve ever seen.
The Force Majeure - The power competition. A reflection on the old days of competition climbing where displays of pure strength were used to separate competitors. This one came with a modern twist where all of the Final competitors faced off in an open concept “Session” format where competitors could try any problem at any time, as many times as they want within a set time frame. First ascents were given the most points and subsequent ascents were awarded points in descending value. This format highlighted some unique strategies amongst the competitors where beta was shared and competitors progress on problems was built on the attempts of others. Ultimately the ones who had the most power in the tank were victorious.
The Modern Climber - Embrace the modern competition style. Jumps, coordination and some of the most mind bending moves in climbing were on display in this showcase of the future. Our most unique format creation to date was nicknamed “Levels”, or the video game format, where competitors all start on the first problem at the same time and can only progress by completing each one in order. First to finish all of the climbs, wins.

2023 Sponsorship Packages
For this season, we are bringing back the same formats as 2019 to further expand on the unique challenges they present to competitors. However, this year we are taking a different approach to the distribution of content for the series to better reflect the changing media landscape and further expand our media footprint. The Boulder Field Masters will be hiring professional content producers (photographers and videographers) for each event and then sharing the entire library of raw captured content with all of the athletes at the culmination of each event. This will be in addition to our in house highlight reels and branded content. The “open book” sharing of this content will allow each athlete to create their own content from the raw media provided allowing for a more diverse range of perspectives, more creative opportunities, and a bigger overall audience reach. We believe this new approach will be immensely beneficial for all of our sponsors and for all of the athletes involved.
